How We Use Our Pet Diagnostics

Diagnostic tools in veterinary medicine are invaluable. Physical exams alone won’t cut it—that’s why we rely on advanced pet diagnostics to tell us what your pet can’t. At New Berlin Animal Hospital, we believe that effective treatments are borne from a complete understanding of your pet’s condition, and diagnostics are instrumental in achieving that. Our equipment includes digital X-rays, ultrasound, endoscopy, and a full in-house lab.

Digital Imaging Technology: X-rays & Ultrasound

Digital X-rays and ultrasound allow us to see what’s happing internally. We can view your pet’s skeletal structure, abdominal cavity, organs, and more. With digital X-ray, we generate clear, detailed, static images (with significantly less radiation than film X-ray). Meanwhile, ultrasound uses sound waves to digitally recreate a live view of your pet’s organs, glands, and abdomen. Both of these work together to help us diagnose the following:

  • Fractured bones
  • Foreign body ingestion
  • Bladder or kidney stones
  • Organ disease
  • Fluid accumulation
  • Gastrointestinal problems
  • Pregnancy
  • And more

For echocardiograms, we work with a board-certified cardiologist who can perform the procedure in the comfort of our hospital.

An endoscope is a unique medical instrument that comprises a flexible tube with a camera at the end of it. Its primary use is exploratory. We can insert it into the mouth, rectum, ear canal, nasal passage and passage to safely examine, in full color, these body cavities. This helps us identify abnormalities, foreign bodies, and more. It also allows us to take a biopsy sample of suspicious tissue if needed. It is far safer and less invasive than an exploratory surgery which would require cutting of the tissue

Full In-House Laboratory

With our full, in-house laboratory, we can run a variety of biological tests to screen for diseases, discover any deficiencies, diagnose parasite infestations, and more. We perform the following tests:

  • Complete blood counts
  • Blood chemistry panels
  • Fecal exams
  • Urinalysis
  • Cytology (skin analysis)
  • And more

For more complex testing such as for allergies or biopsies, we can send samples to our partner lab for timely results.
